The Petra Museum

The Petra Museum is a state-of-the-art museum that opened in 2019, located near the entrance of the Petra archaeological site in Jordan. The museum was established in partnership between the Jordanian government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and was designed by a team of Japanese architects and experts in exhibition design.

The museum’s collection includes more than 280 artifacts, carefully selected from the vast archaeological excavations at Petra, dating back to different periods of the Nabatean civilization. The collection includes pottery, jewelry, coins, and sculptures, as well as tools and utensils that provide a glimpse into the daily life of the Nabateans.

The Petra Museum is divided into several exhibition halls, each with a different theme. The first hall focuses on the history and culture of the Nabateans, their trading routes, and their relationship with other civilizations in the region. The second hall showcases the architecture and engineering of Petra, including the famous Treasury and the Monastery, with detailed models and interactive displays. The third hall is dedicated to the rock art and inscriptions found throughout Petra, which provide important clues to the Nabatean language and beliefs.

One of the highlights of it is a multimedia experience that takes visitors on a virtual tour of Petra, highlighting its unique architecture, art, and history. Visitors can also enjoy a 3D film that brings to life the Nabatean civilization, its people, and their achievements.

The Petra Museum is an important addition to the archaeological site of Petra, offering visitors a deeper understanding and appreciation of one of the world’s most iconic ancient cities.
